Voting Changes in New York State: What You Need to Know

COVID-19 has upended much of daily life for New Yorkers, but there are still state and local elections happening on June 23rd, 2020.

All active and inactive voters that are eligible to vote in a primary or special election to be held on June 23rd will receive an absentee ballot application in the mail with a postage paid return option. If you do not have a local or primary election in your district, you will not receive a ballot application.

Here are important dates and to-do’s you need to know about voting in New York right now.

MAY 23rd

You should have received your absentee ballot application in the mail by this date. If you did not receive it, check your voter registration or reach out to your local Board of Elections. Everyone in New York is eligible to check “temporary illness or physical disability” due to COVID-19 on their absentee ballot application for the June primary.

MAY 29th

This is the final date to change your voter registration, including changing your address.

If you have a DMV issued ID, you can register to vote online here.

If you do not have a DMV issued ID, you can request a form be mailed to you here.

JUNE 16th

This is the last day to postmark, email, or fax your ballot application for the primary election! Get it in!

JUNE 23rd (ELECTION DAY)

This is the last date to mail back your absentee ballot!
